How do we choose our fabrics and why does it matter?Updated 6 months ago

At IMBŌDHI, our commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility extends to the very heart of our products – the fabrics we use. We firmly believe that our choices today can shape a brighter, cleaner, and more sustainable future for the fashion industry.

When it comes to selecting fabrics, we start by asking two crucial questions: Where does it come from, and where will it go? The fashion industry, historically, has had a significant negative impact on our planet, and we consider it our duty to rewrite this narrative. This commitment has led us to establish a network of conscientious sourcing partners, allowing us to maximize the positive impact of our production while minimizing any harm to the environment. We are constantly exploring innovative solutions to push the boundaries of sustainability even further.

Let's shine a spotlight on the remarkable fabrics that have become integral to our journey:

1. Lenzing™: Our Lenzing™ Micromodal and Tencel fabrics are not only incredibly soft and stretchy but also environmentally responsible. They are crafted from the pulp of sustainably-harvested beech and eucalyptus trees. The production process employs a closed-loop system, recovering and reusing 99% of solvents and water. With these fabrics, you can enjoy the breathability and stretchiness of cotton without the harmful effects of pesticide and fertilizer runoff or water and land waste. Furthermore, all three fabrics are biodegradable, and they originate right here in Los Angeles.

2. Upcycled Cotton: Our upcycled cotton blend consists of OCS-certified organic cotton and GRS-certified recycled cotton sourced from post-industrial textile cotton waste. Compared to virgin cotton, which consumes approximately 13,000 liters of water per kilogram during processing, upcycled cotton requires none, zero water. It's not farmed, processed, or dyed in the traditional sense, with 50% of the energy used for spinning it being solar-powered. The end result is cotton, in its purest form, only better for the environment.

3. Deadstock: Our deadstock materials are those that would have otherwise been discarded as waste but have been given new life by IMBŌDHI to create your beloved essentials. Sourced from Los Angeles, these materials do not biodegrade, but they are exceptionally durable and built to last a lifetime. While the colors may vary from batch to batch, the quality remains consistent. Our goal in repurposing these fabrics is to craft minimalist essentials that stand the test of time, serving you in countless ways for many years to come.

By making conscious choices in our fabric selections, we aim to not only offer you high-quality, comfortable activewear but also to contribute to a more sustainable and eco-friendly fashion industry.
